i doubt these people will see even an iota of the FEMA money that the malibu and san diego fires will. geographic and fiscal locations make all the difference in our fair world. Ah the firm but consistent reminder that being poor is close to nothingness.

Escapism via reality

i am addicted to gossip blogs.
i watch the hills and much to my chagrin got into this season's Real World.
i don't want to admit that i actually like these shows - because i don't.
they represent all that i have always rebelled against.

when i was a kid i would watch national geographic and nova with my parents. i was far too sensitive to watch the whole thing. i never wanted to see the animal that i was rooting for suffer. before the blood would spill, or the orphan cub succumbed to the harsh winter i would leave the room and fill my head with crap shows like Charle's in Charge and Small Wonder.

i think that the reality shows of today are the perfect hybrid of nova and crappy 80's sitcoms. watching fashionably attired characters (usually the non-threatening gazelle or zebra) narrowly avoid the wolves (boys, evils of hollywood, former friends) and overcome some lame issue (sex tape) via fashion and fabulousness seems to sooth my soul.

i should have bucked up and dealt with the realities of the animal world. i would much rather see Lauren and Heidi devoured by wolves.

i was in a verbal altercation months ago at the bank.
some girl called me a jerk or stupid from her car - and i called her out.
told her that she was a dumb bitch and told her to shut the fuck up.
my adrenaline surged. i was not ready to fight, but i was ready to scare someone.
"I see all this potential; and I see it squandered. God dammit, an entire generation pumping gas and waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don’t need. We are the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no great war, no great depression. Our great war is a spiritual war. Our great depression is our lives. We’ve all been raised by television to believe that we’d be millionaires and movie gods and rock stars - but we won’t. "

fight club was on tv yesterday and it rekindled some feelings. i purposely tried to pare down my lifestyle - and not get caught up in the race.
thoughts are brewing and more blogs are coming...

Kinda hard to muster up "fire" sympathy as the places that are burning have always done so.
"For generations market driven urbanization has transgressed environmental common sense. Historic wildfire corridors have been turned into view-lot suburbs," - from Ecology of Fear by Mike Davis.

time vs inclination
time is taking inclinations bad rap...
people (myself included) often say that they haven't the time.
but really - truly they lack the inclination.

I set my morning alarm to kcrw so i can wake up to npr in the mornings.
Unbeknownst to me kcrw has a really great jazz program "Strictly Jazz"on saturday mornings. Every weekend I am happily stirred by a familiar melody. It is the perfect beginning to every weekend.

when i was a kid i didn't color as much as i outlined the outline.
i derived my pleasure and relaxation by fine tuning and exploring the boundaries. Sheesh, talk about living on the edge.

sometimes there are perfect moments of understanding.
when words you hear strike you.
words about you that bring you to your knees.
elliott smith was my first one.
his sweet silent self annihilation resonated with me.
and bright eyes in my current one.
i just got home from seeing him content with the talent that i just testified to.

I am a private person, and i don't quite get the streak of exibitionalism that runs through the veins of a lot of people - specifically girls. I understand the desire for attention, I think that is normal and kind on settles down once you are comfortable in your skin. But the desire for each emotion to be addressed and catered is really foreign to me. I have younger girls as my friends and I see them scream out for it. So here are the words of wisdom for them. "When you scream - you lose your voice."

Main Entry: at·ten·tion
Pronunciation: &-'ten(t)-sh&n; sense 4 often (&-)"ten(ch)-'h&t
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English attencioun, from Latin attention-, attentio, from attendere
1 a : the act or state of attending especially through applying the mind to an object of sense or thought b : a condition of readiness for such attention involving especially a selective narrowing or focusing of consciousness and receptivity

the security cowboy (pictured above) just kissed my hand and said he loved me as he passed me to leave. (his tube top wearing novia was there rolling her eyes at me).
It simultaneously scared me and warmed my heart.

i went to starbucks (for the super fast internet connection) and came across this super stylish latina in coach plataformas with her equally stylish son. Please note his faux hawk was not captured in its entirety. I am all about being a slave to fashion i just think that i would rather throw the cash towards some Louboutin's. To display that limited mall mentality in the day of ebay and net a porter is a crime bigger than the platform heels.
